Live It Twice
03:49
|
|||
Was it really worth it when
You dived blind into the deep end?
Take care not to tread on whatever lead you this way
I remember when I called you up friend
Hot-headed and late in the evening
"Why is it always change?"
You're never gonna live it twice
So be damn sure that you get it right
Are you gonna be there tonight?
Let's get drunk up on Arthur's seat alright
I'll bring the beers
Saw that look in your eye again
Gotta take your time my friend
Don't rush these things, they'll come out right
How many jumps will you have to take before?
You realise your feet are still stuck to the floor
Another day slips away as you turn out the light
You're never gonna live it twice
So be damn sure that you get it right
Are you up for one hell of a fight?
Not sure we'll make it but with a little luck we just might
Last the years

Lectures In Love
03:57
|
|
||
Across every wall in an untidy scrawl
In this freezing cold student room
Is every plot and idea
That could maybe steer
Us to meet by the light of the Moon
For a 15 minute conversation with you
I’d treble my student loan
But when I reach out towards you
I am sure that I will bore you
So I’ll try another afternoon
I need a Master’s class in romance
A seminar femina
I thought the laws of physics were tough
Now I’m sitting my lectures in love
I asked the professor where can a man
Learn the rules of the heart
I’ve studied chemistry, psychology
Maths and physiology
But none seem to hit the mark
He said “you could be fanatic
About all known mathematics
But love can’t be quantified
And the answer to your question
Can’t be written in equations
‘Coz God knows that I’ve tried”
Everybody wants a eureka moment
To make a great breakthrough
But I would trade the deepest insights
To take just one giant leap with you

Last Supper
05:23
|
|
||
In your brother’s Nissan Micra
At a burger place back home
You finished your diet coke
And told me “that’s all she wrote”
With Asbury Park on the stereo
To the tune of growing up
Our last record played, our bill was paid
I reached the bottom of my cup
We had 6 weeks left in school
And 16 songs I wrote
When I called for you at your mama’s place
She said “Son, you’ve missed the boat”
You blamed it on the luck of the deal
It doesn’t really matter how anyone feels
I don’t know if it’s you or the town
But there’s something heavy here
That’s holding me down
And if you can feel it too
Get gone
It’s 3 years later and I am sat
In a different girl’s university flat
She told me we should go part time
Over Chinese food and Australian wine
I couldn’t tell her I loved her
Couldn’t tell her how I felt
I couldn’t bridge the gap
Between the cities where we dwelt
We talked and ate and sat on the floor
Some times these things end with a whisper not a roar
A taxi was called, she waved in the rain
I cried a whole bucket on that cross-country train
I know the ship was sinking for days
When the steering’s wrecked
You take your chances with the waves
I don’t know where we are both bound
But there’s something heavy here
That’s holding me down
And if you can’t feel it too
You’re lost
As we look across the table
Suddenly I’m sure
Look you don’t have to say it
I’ve been here before
As the waiter serves our coffee
I wonder what she’d say
If she could see how far I’ve come
Since my drive-thru days
We go through the motions
We split it even ways
Still I can’t help but wonder
Who’s gonna keep our favourite café?
When will be my last last meal?
I want off this ride
This ever-turning wheel
I don’t know where she’ll be found
But there’s something heavy here
It’s dragging me down
So if you are hungry too
Let’s get a bite
After every last supper
I tell myself it’s fine, I’ve already forgot her

Arrogance
03:16
|
|
||
Birds of a feather
We’re coming together
Here is my brother
He’s taking a shot
The world’s getting smaller
The people are taller
Your head’s getting bigger
I’m ready, you’re not
It seems like everything you lived for
Is going your way
But even when the wind’s blowing with ya
The rain’s in your face
You’re so well respected
Your arse is protected
Your time is invested
In aggressive pursuits
But as you get older
You never are sober
You sleep on the sofa
In yesterday’s suits
The goal’s getting nearer
But so is the river
Your heart went in with her
So who’s to blame?
The company you keep
Are of the elite
But on the street
No-one knows your name
You’ve never had such freedom
In your three piece cage

Logged In
05:32
|
|
||
All stood in line heads held down
People are changing in this town
They say that you can do anything now
If you're logged in
With your whole world in your hand
It's any wonder you have space to breathe
Your picture shows you've got it going as planned
But that's not what you told me
They can hack our homes
Hack our minds
But what do we care?
Why do you feel so alone?
Another company will find you
Suggest another flag to wear
That little red dot in the corner of your eye
Gets your heart pumping more than her smile
And as long as no-one meets you before you die
You can go out in filtered style
What have we lost?
Wearing a mask of ones and zeros
Some say they're terrorists
Some say they're heroes
I really don't think anybody knows
Is it time to shut everything down?
Restart hope. Restart freedom
Restart democracy so we can be believing
That when I'm talking about my fears in the evening
There's no-one on the other end silent but listening
Did I get it right?
Who the hell cares
The answer for eternity will be stored up there
One click away so why bother anyway
To put anything into your mind?
Is it gonna teach you love?
Teach you wisdom?
Teach you how to mend
Society's broken bones? Don't think about it
Just click send
What have we lost?
So many faces out there
So many minds to change
So many opinions, ideas, posts and careers
It doesn't matter who’s wise and who’s deranged
Everybody has a voice shouting out loud
So no-one can hear each other in this crowd
But as long as you agree I'm sure we'll get along
And try to figure out what the hell went wrong
As long as you agree I'm sure we'll get along
And try to figure out what the hell went wrong

Signal To Noise
05:19
|
|
||
Welcome to the new world order
The information flows like water
And if the static gets too loud
Bury your head in the cloud
I’m staring deep into the void
Shaken into existence like a Polaroid
Like a momentary x-ray
Trying to clear my airways
Hello, hello I’m calling all frequencies
Looking for something of antiquity
A feeling to last the decades
I’m searching for truth in all this white noise
The analogue girls, the digital boys
Can’t help me climb out of the wreckage
I’m hearing dial-up tones every night
In my dreams bouncing off a satellite
A connection from A to B
Something shared between you and me
I’m picking up inference
Turn the dial for coherence
My head is a radio dish
Tune me into something stylish
From power lines to pick-up lines
There’s so much chatter on the stations
I wanna find the truth worth broadcasting
To everybody in isolation
Come in, come in is anyone listening?
The Shetland shakes to the great lakes of England
I’m calling down this amplifier
Our time is short, the radio’s loud
I take a second thought and decide to go now
‘Cos the answer won’t be found on the wire
Anymore
And you’ll always be mislead by the signal to noise

Looking Into My Own Eyes
05:45
|
|||
When I wrote this song the other day
My thoughts kept drifting light years away
Matter arranged in countable ways
Is there someone out there putting the same words
On the page?
And I pity all those other mes
That have suddenly found their fatality
And I envy all those lucky enough
To be blessed with quantum immortality
I know that I'll never get to meet them
No machine could ever travel fast enough to greet them
But I know that they're out there
I'll never stop believing
That in a multiverse full of surprise
I may one day look into my own eyes
So what went through your mind as you listened to this line?
If you never really had a choice with what to do with your time
Is it all set out before you?
I wish you well
But is there ever only gonna be one story
For you to tell?
But don't despair my friend
There ain't one road that leads to your end
For there are many crossroads and splits
And infinitely many yous taking the path
That they see fit

Mad Dogs
04:22
|
|||
I never knew there was so much to see
Until I looked up
There’s over a thousand ways to be
Lost in the flood
And like dogs we took off across the Universe
Mad dogs all lost inside the Universe
As I make my way across the sand
My feet barely touch
My head is in a whole different land
That I miss so much
Through these lines you seek ghosts
That ask, “do you fear me?”
Do they hide in yourself
Or in your theory?
Somewhere in that great unknown
Perhaps just in my head
I hope to find I’m not alone
Before I am dead
In one of those forgotten bars
In some dusty galaxy
Sitting at the card table
One day you may see me
Like dogs, mad dogs
You run, run, run away

The Varietea Of Life
04:54
|
|||
In a world that moves so fast
We need vitalizing fuel so we can last
There's a look in your eye
A nod, a wink or a glance
It's that time again, the time to turn on the taps
The water starts to bubble, there's a rumbling sound
It's an oasis in time with friends picked out from the crowd
What have you been doing?
How have you passed the day?
There's a lot more to drink and so much more to say
Now I think it's time for another Tetley
A PG Tips or a chai that's slightly spicy
In a mug reflecting my personality
Whether it's to reach an answer you can't see
To get you through university
We're moving through a life
With so much varietea
Can you taste that subtle hint?
Notice the invigorating peppermint
What have you been doing? It has been a while
But tell me pretty quick I've had a chamomile
I'm sorry for this, usually there's no rush
But I had so many breaks I used up all of my redbush
Was gonna buy some more but there was no time today
I had to make it through on cups of Earl Grey
Early Grey
Now I think it's time for another Tetley
A PG Tips or a chai that's slightly spicy
In a mug reflecting aspects of my history
Whether it's to reach an answer you can't see
To get you through your PhD
We're moving through a life
With so much varietea
When there's drifting certainty
About the state of my sanity
When it's a struggle and we try to just pull through
Do you take milk or sugar or something more crazy?
Please stick within the bounds of suitability
Let's sit down and I'll have a brew with you
Now I think it's time for another Tetley
A PG Tips or a chai that's slightly spicy
In a mug reflecting aspects of my history
Whether it's to reach an answer you can't see
Sitting down with a friend that means a lot to me
We're moving through a life
With so much varietea
It's the Varietea of Life

The Clearing
05:17
|
|||
You were one of the good guys
Never turned away or broke your will
Beer pong replaced goodbyes
And laughter echoes in my head still
Every man owes a death
To this life and nothing more
But to lose a friend like you is a theft
The cruellest kind of Murphy’s Law
And my friends find me reeling
In the aftermath
I hope to see you in the clearing
At the end of the path
When the shot was ringing in your ears
You aimed with your mind
And though life dealt you lead
You dealt it back in kind
Now we know the pain of tenderness
And the wounds inflicted by love
We’ll carry on until the end of this
You showed us what it means to be tough
I’ve lived my life with numbers, figures
And evidence
But maybe there’s proof for the spirit
In its absence
That there’s a clearing is something
I want to believe
So my brother and I can drink with you again
On Christmas Eve
I hope to see you again my friend
At the end of the path
